Evidence of understanding
A polished product does not prove understanding. Assessment should examine explanation, transfer, revision, and independent performance.
Biology educator · Academic leader · Builder
I’m Daiju Hoshino, a biology instructor and department chair at Tarrant County College Northwest. I work on assessment, support faculty, and build practical tools for the problems I encounter in academic life.

01Work in practice
Vibe coding · A growing LinkedIn series
When exam-scoring software became unavailable, I built a browser tool to read the answer sheets. It grew into a system for individual student reports.
This series follows that work and the other tools I build for assessment, scheduling, and academic life. The problems, the constraints, and what I learned along the way.

From answer sheets to individual feedbackScreenshots use fictional demonstration data. Read the stories for the design decisions and limitations.
02About & philosophy
Learners differ. Recognizing those differences means offering real support while remaining honest about what students can explain and do independently.
The useful questions begin with context. Which students? At what developmental stage? Under what conditions? A method that strengthens one learner may give another a better immediate result without building the same understanding.
The goal is to use technology in ways that expand thinking while keeping the learner responsible for it.
A polished product does not prove understanding. Assessment should examine explanation, transfer, revision, and independent performance.
New research matters. So do its methods, limitations, population, and the difference between correlation and causation.
People begin from different biological, cultural, and educational places. Equity requires real support and honesty about what each path costs.
Generative AI can produce a plausible answer, essay, presentation, or report. Students still need to question, verify, explain, revise, and apply what they understand. Assessment should make those actions part of the evidence.
Record the exact question or search strategy.
Gather explanations, claims, and possible evidence.
Check consequential claims against credible sources.
Explain what changed in your own understanding.
03Leadership & contribution
Across department and institutional roles, I have worked on enrollment stewardship, faculty support, scheduling, student outcome analysis, and shared governance. The numbers matter because of what sits behind them. Access. Learning. Colleagues equipped to serve students well.
2,008 to 2,886 students across a four-year period of department leadership.
92 to 138 sections while rebuilding instructional capacity.
Invited, external, and institutional presentations on teaching and educational practice.
Recognition spanning both staff and faculty service.
“Your leadership helps move us all forward with greater clarity and intention.”

04Writing & ideas
I write where biology, education, society, and AI meet. I try to make assumptions explicit, look carefully at the evidence, and work out what it means for actual people.
How fluency, kindness, and agreement can hide weak judgment, and how educators can prompt for honesty.
A practical case for verifying process, measuring independent performance, and designing assessment that makes thinking visible.
A biology informed reflection on human difference, effort, opportunity, and meaningful excellence.
Why higher education must examine the reasoning beneath a polished result.
Try the idea
The opportunity grows where your knowledge of AI reaches into the part of your work you can clearly explain. Move both sliders and watch which one changes the opening.
The percentages illustrate the overlap in this model. They do not measure productivity or predict outcomes.

05Speaking & service
I speak with educators about assessment, responsible GenAI use, and building practical tools. My sessions connect the larger questions in education with decisions people can make in their own classrooms and departments.
